The Gooseberry Gardens & Farm

The Lodge was always intended to be self-sufficient, and this ethos continues today.

Kitchen Gardens

The kitchen gardens have been lovingly restored by a team of Ireland’s finest gardeners. With the help of our polytunnels, the walled garden produces enough food to sustain the house and all events at Virginia Park Lodge, while also supplying the Deer Park Inn, our nearby pub.

A Productive Garden All Year Round

We are always improving and nurturing the kitchen gardens with composting & manure, ensuring abundance from the land whilst protecting & maintaining a healthy rich soil. We utilise herb gardens, cutting gardens & polytunnels to extend the seasons making the garden productive all year round.

From our apple orchard, our walled garden bearing muscat grapes, our stables and more, there is always something new to discover - and something great for the kitchen to cook!

Rich in History

From its inception, the Lodge was a botanical marvel, created from Lord Headfort’s personal collection of plants and trees sourced from around the world. A key contributor to the Royal Horticultural Society, Lord Headfort cultivated seedlings in Ireland that were later added to the Botanical Collection at Kew Gardens in London.

Areas of exotic trees and winding paths guide you around, revealing stunning lake vistas

The Deerpark walks, with bridges, follies and seemingly undiscovered waterfalls, offer a stunning reminder of the naturalistic gardens originally planted here.
